Whilst completing one of my life coaching training courses, I was invited to create a big vision of what I wanted my future to look like. In all honesty, I really struggled with this task. Given all of the adversity that I’ve faced (the parts that I’ve shared openly on social media and the parts that I haven’t shared), I found it challenging to imagine a big, bright vision for my future.
Despite the inner struggle and a feeling of stuckness in my nervous system, I did the tasks and I created a big vision for my future. I chose to focus on creating a safe and supportive romantic relationship, which at that point in time felt impossible. I’m not going to bullsh*t you and suggest that this big vision just happened overnight 💩 because it didn’t!
I then had to face lots of inner conflict, re-parent younger aspects of myself, expand my inner resources and practice loads of new self regulation techniques to build more safety into my nervous system. I also went on LOADS of dates, and through this I learnt a sh*t ton of lessons about myself, about others and about the landscape of dating 😵💫
When I met Amy, I knew this was the start of my big vision! I actually felt the connection to Amy before we met, it was the sound of her voice that spoke to my heart 💛 From that point onwards, there has been LOADS more learning and growing. There has been deep joy, and excruciating vulnerability. We’ve slowly built so much safety into our connection 🐢
So here is my advice… your nervous system will do its best to keep you connected to the familiar (no matter how sh*t the familiar may feel). This can be very apparent for trauma survivors like myself. That said, I know first hand that with safe support and connection to inner resources, it is possible to create a brighter future ✨
It can be challenging to ask yourself this question, but I invite you to give it a try if you wish…
✨ What’s the best that could happen? ✨
As always, my posts are written with love and care for all those on a journey of self discovery 💛 Love Sarah Xx
